Each part of the state has something to offer. In this post, I talk about our family trip to western North Carolina. Our journey begins in the cabin we rented in the town of Andrews. Andrews is a cozy town in Cherokee County that became our home base. We took 1-1.5 hour car trips to find family-friendly hikes and outdoor activities. Where We Stayed First, let's talk about where we stayed. We found this incredible cabin and our experience was so wonderful that we are already planning to make it a yearly tradition. The cabin is big enough for a family and pets! Yes, we took our two pups with us. The cabin is surrounded by trees and the backyard has a firepit (yum, smores!) There was also a creek that rushes through the back of the property. You can hear the water rushing through day and night, it was lovely. My son loved the creek. He spent some time knee-deep in the water picking and throwing stones to his heart's content. The property also came with a Jacuzzi which my husband and I took full advantage of on one particularly chilly night. Overall, our stay was magical and recharging. See below for the outdoors video of our cabin stay. Activities/Weather We live in the city and our objective for this trip was to go out and explore nature. We're talking about hiking, walking, swimming, etc. Upon our arrival, we realized we had hit the jackpot. I saw more waterfalls in a week than I had my entire life! It was amazing. Our trip was in late March, the last week of March to be exact. The temperature fluctuated A LOT. We're talking 34 - 67 degrees Fahrenheit. Nighttime was the coldest and mid-day was the hottest. This made our hopes of swimming in these beautiful waterways impossible. During the time of this trip our son was 2 years old so our activity time frame was split into segments (2-4 hours at a time). For the majority of our hikes, he was comfortably strapped into a hiking backpack carrier that my husband wore. This thing is amazing and life changing for any parent that loves to spend time outdoors and hiking. Every now and then we would take him out to stretch his legs and run around in nature.
