I am a parent, wife, and career woman a.k.a busy woman. I am all about having a tidy home but let's face it, given the fact that I'm busy all week long, leaves me running on fumes at the end of the day. Do you think I'm excited, happy, or content with cleaning up after my toddler, husband and 2 dogs? Believe me, my heart wants to but does my body? Nope.
The level of disaster my home became at some point was terrifying and for me unacceptable. So one morning (with a coffee cup in hand ), I sat down to make a plan. 3 effective ways to keep an organized home were born. I hope you too find a way to incorporate these strategies to live your best tidy life. Enjoy! 1. Create a Weekday Schedule for Cleaning. Create a schedule? I know, the idea of having to sit down and schedule out anything when your already running short on time seems like a quick “forget this”, but hear me out. This is something that you will only do once. That’s right a “One and done” type of situation. I keep my schedule on my digital calendar (iCalendar) and have the schedule repeat weekly throughout the year. Below you will find a list of things to guide the creation of your weekly cleaning/tidy house schedule. * Start with creating a list of rooms in the house. What aspects of that room need to be consistent daily a.k.a non-negotiables. (Example: By the end of the day, the kitchen sink must be cleared of all dishes. By the end of the night, the Living room floor must be cleared of all clutter.) * Consider leaving some things to be done weekly as opposed to daily. For example, I dedicate 2 days out of the week to laundry. One day I do my toddlers laundry; Wash, dry, and fold in the same day. The next day I do my laundry. * Set a time limit for each of the items on your schedule. I cap everything at one hour max (Sometimes I get things done in 10 minutes.) Cleaning the bathrooms? I have one hour to do that. Sort, fold, and organize laundry? I have an hour to do that. Once you’ve organized your thoughts by using the guidelines above, it's time to write down your plan. Check out my schedule below. Remember, do what works for you and your family. Monday: Sweep the entire house and Mop (or Swiffer, I am obsessed with this cleaning tool. I also have a soft spot for iRobot's.) Note: I am in no way affiliated with either company. Tuesday: Laundry; Day 1. Wednesday: Laundry; Day 2 Thursday: Bathrooms; Clean fixtures, sink, toilet, tub. We have three bathrooms at the house so I tend to focus on the two we use the most. Friday: Dusting, watering plants, sweep and mop the common areas (living room, main hallway, and kitchen.) Saturday and Sunday: Rest up! 2. Create a Space for Everything Got home from work and you're taking off your shoes and putting your bag down? Where are you putting those items? Consider creating a space for everything. For example, before we set up an entryway organizer (yea, that’s a thing.) I use to leave my bag anywhere I could find a spot. My husband's work bag would be on the floor somewhere and my son's shoes would be scattered everywhere. Keep everything in the right place and you will never have to worry about staying organized or tidy. My son has a giant plastic bucket for all his toys in our living room, let me tell you how nice it is at the end of a long day to just grab all his toys and dump them into that cute blue bucket. 3. Do a Little When You Can Doing a little when you can is helpful to avoid a marathon cleaning/organizing event that leaves you feeling frustrated and exhausted. Getting ready to sit down and watch some good old Netflix? Are you taking a trip to the kitchen for a snack? Consider taking those empty cups that have been sitting on the coffee table all day. How about implementing the concept of putting away and not just putting things down. Overall, these small acts become an investment in your time. I hope that these 3 tips help you create a tidy and clean home. Xoxoxo -Cindy Comments are closed.
